Therapeutic Thai Bodywork

About Therapeutic Thai Bodywork

Traditional Thai bodywork is an entire branch of traditional Thai medicine, consisting of a broad range of clinical therapies with a long lineage. Done well, it is closer to a physical therapy than a typical spa massage. Traditional Thai bodywork is a complete physical system with a deep spiritual component of Buddhism as medicine, and the understanding that the physical, mental, energetic, spiritual, and emotional bodies are not separate.

Therapeutic Thai bodywork sessions incorporate a multitude of bodywork techniques: sessions may include deep tissue compression; gentle passive stretching and joint mobilization; the use of herbal compresses, balms, and liniments; and cupping or scraping. The work is focused on freeing pathways of movement—muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves—in the body to support your being’s state of balance. Through freeing these pathways, muscles can contract and relax with ease; space within joints allows for proper skeletal alignment; circulation is supported and blood, lymph, and nerves are restored with fluidity of movement.

Sessions are integrative and treatment-oriented. We'll start with intake and discussion to address goals and needs before moving into bodywork. Most sessions take place on a padded mat on the floor with clients wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Sessions can be targeted or encompassing; physically intensive or gently nourishing, depending on your needs.

90-Minute Bodywork Session

Focused, precise, thoughtfully paced; 90-minute sessions provide time to work through the layers of the body in a sustainable and nourishing way, and give focused attention to your areas in need. 90-minute sessions can be especially useful for spot-specific, targeted work.

Each session begins with a consultation before transitioning into bodywork. Sessions are responsive to your individual needs; the practitioner will use her palms, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet to gently compress and stretch tissues, and mobilize joints. Herbal compresses and other therapeutic tools may be used. The session is likely to take place on the floor; adjustments can be made where necessary. Please arrive in long pants and shirt that you feel comfortable to move in, such as exercise or pajama type clothing.

$180 for 90-minutes (gratuity is not accepted)

120-Minute Bodywork Session

Conscious, patient, balanced; 120-minute sessions are long enough to be a bit more encompassing; we can use the time to engage your whole body; focus on multiple areas of concern; or do a highly focused spot-specific session. This amount of time gives space to work generously through the layers of your body, promoting deep relaxation of body and mind.
